We recently had the privilege of photographing a wedding that featured the floral designs of the amazing Sarah Petryk. Sarah is a florist in the Lehigh Valley and has honed her impeccable taste over the course of her 10+ years as an event planner. Many of her creations are grown or foraged right on her family farm, hence the name of her business- Allium Design at Black River Farms. She employs organic gardening practices and favors heirloom varieties. If you are looking for organic flowers in the Lehigh Valley or a seasonal bouquet in the Lehigh Valley, Sarah is the florist for you.
Organically grown flowers are a great alternative. Conventional flowers are often grown with the use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides and preservatives. Sarah favors heirloom varieties of flowers, which means that the seeds are sustainably produced and harvested. She reaches as far as South America for her flowers in the off-season, but when it is the growing season in Pennsylvania, she utilizes flowers, berries, and wild forage from her own farm and from local purveyors. Choosing local over imported flowers lessens the carbon footprint of your bouquet.
Check out our photos of Sarah's flowers and visit her site (http://www.alliumfloraldesign.com) to see more. She is so talented! Sarah did not only the bouquets and boutonnières, but also dressed the cake and table, did the center pieces and embellished other features of the reception hall (as in the picture above).
