Two weeks ago, we had the opportunity to be photographed by our friend and mentor, Glen Johnson of Aperture Photographics. Josh and I were headed to a prom party and decided to make the most of the occasion- as parents of a two-and-a-half year old, we don't get out much. We asked Glen to shoot some photos. I cashed in on a gift certificate and partook of some much appreciated spa pampering. And while my sister in law, Jess James, was in town the week before the big night, I let her throw together an ensemble for me.
Jess is a style writer for the Wilmington Star, is fashion editor for Focus on the Coast and has a personal styling business, James and Dunne Styling in Wilmington, NC. The negative connotations you might associate with the term fashionista do not apply to Jess. She is a down to earth artist. Style is her medium. We cruised from vintage and second hand stores to open-air markets in search of a dress, shoes and accessories for the big night. Although we were pretty worn out by the end of the day, we found an outfit that worked and had a blast in the process.

Glen is hands down, the most talented wedding photographer we know. His photographic style has been an influence on our work and he has provided us with business advice on numerous occasions. His experience in the digital wedding photography business has even led him to write a book on the subject. Plus, he is a great guy. We are extremely blessed to be his friends.
It was fun to be on the other side of the camera for a change. Josh and I are used to calling the shots, not being the subject of them. I felt the mixture of anticipation and anxiety that many of our brides must feel before the big day. Above all, I wanted to have a good time that night, but I knew how special the photos would be to me years from the event.
